Knowledge Gap: 
The purpose of this activity is to educate healthcare providers with the most up-to-date information on the damage control resuscitation in the trauma critical care patient.

Target Audience
The target audience includes all healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals who would like to learn about the damage control resuscitation in the trauma critical care patient and how it pertains to their respective profession.

Objectives

  1. Define Damage Control and how it is applied to the care of trauma patients and focus on Damage Control Resuscitation (DCR) and its role for the severely injured patient
  2. Explain the three key concepts (Early Hemostatic Resuscitation, Limit the Use of Crystalloids, Permissive Hypotension) of DCR and how this method differs from previous methods of resuscitation
  3. Apply literature that supports the use of DCR

 

Biographical Info

Mary Katherine (Katie) Kimbrough, M.D., is a physician and Assistant Professor in the Division of Trauma and Critical Care Surgery at UAMS Medical Center.

Dr. Kimbrough obtained her bachelor’s degree at Louisiana Tech University, in Ruston Louisiana and her medical degree and general surgery residency at Louisiana State University Medical School, Shreveport.  Dr. Kimbrough completed a trauma/surgical critical care fellowship at Louisiana State University, New Orleans.

Dr. Kimbrough is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care Surgery.  She is also an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Certified Instructor.

Dr. Kimbrough is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
