Knowledge Gap: 
The purpose of this activity is to educate healthcare providers with the most up-to-date information on Marijuana and the Older Adult.

Target Audience
The target audience includes all healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals who would like to learn about Marijuana and the Older Adult and how it pertains to their respective profession.

  1. Define active ingredients of marijuana and routes of use/abuse.
  2. Explain recent legislative changes and current position on marijuana use by regulatory bodies.
  3. List benefits and burdens of marijuana use, especially in the older adults.

Biographical Info

 

Dr. George is a geriatrician and pain management specialist.  She is a Hospice Medical Director and Director of the Geriatric Palliative Care Program.  She is board certified in Family Medicine, Geriatrics, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Dr. George sees patients at the Reynolds Institute on Aging and several assisted living facilities.  Her interests include optimal managment of various geriatric syndromes, particularly pain and symptom management in the elderly, with a focus on quality of life.
