Objectives - Describe the clinical utility of MALDI-TOF in AMS practice.
- Apply the use of PCR-based technology with treating various infections.
- Explain how procalcitonin testing can lead to more judicious antibiotic use.

Biographical Info Dr. James Newton is medical director of Washington Regional’s Antibiotic Stewardship Program. Dr. Newton, who joined Washington Regional in 2011, earned his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He completed a residency at the U.S. Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va., and a fellowship at the U.S. Naval Medical Center in San Diego.
